As part of the LIFE project, each of the partners carries out specific tasks related to the protection of lynxes and building social acceptance for their return.

One of the activities of the Project is an outdoor campaign – „Drive SLOWLY. Lynx in THE WILD!”, prepared by the WWF Poland Foundation in cooperation with ZTP. Signs reminding drivers that they can meet a lynx on selected routes.

In West Pomerania, based on telemetry readings from collars worn by lynxes, we checked the data on their migrations. We analyzed the places where animals most often crossed the roads. In these locations, in consultation with forest districts, we installed warning and information plates reminding drivers of the possibility of lynx appearing on the road.

So these are not random places. These are locations indicated on the basis of real observations and data on lynx migrations.

"📍"One of such signs can be seen in the photo – a forester from the Wałcz Forest District is installing it in a forest parking lot.

Why is it important?

The lynx is an extremely secretive animal, it travels over large areas, and the roads cross its natural hiking trails. A properly placed board can make the driver slow down, be more attentive and give the animal a chance to cross the road safely.

We would like to thank all the forest districts that agreed to participate in the campaign and enabled the installation of signs in the areas they manage.
