Yesterday morning we received a report from the forester from the Złocieniec Forest District about finding a young lynx that had been hit by a vehicle. The incident took place on the route between Stara Studnica and Żabinek. The victim was this year’s kitten of our Azjatka -female lynx. The lynx could not come to terms with the loss of her young and kept going out onto the road to the place where her kitten lay. It was a close call; the lynx could have shared the fate of her kitten if it weren’t for the intervention of Mr. Andrzej Bejger, who timely stopped a fast-approaching truck. For many hours, together with Mr. Andrzej, we watched over the safety of the Azjatka. We managed to establish that the lynx has one kitten left.
In the evening hours, the Azjatka lynx gave up and moved away from the accident site. We hope she will not return there and will not put herself and her kitten in danger.
Azjatka was released in April this year after being treated for scabies. She quickly became pregnant and gave birth to three kittens. She was observed with them for just under four months, and today she is left with one. Unfortunately, we do not know what happened to the second kitten, which is not with her.
