We are pleased to inform you that as part of our ongoing cooperation with Jeronimo Martins Polska S.A., the owner of the Biedronka store chain, we have signed another donation agreement for the year 2023 through the Polish Society for Nature Conservation „Salamandra.” The donated funds are aimed at supporting activities related to the protection of bison and lynx in West Pomerania.
Thanks to the donation, we were able to hire an employee and will be able to purchase necessary equipment, including a cargo trailer that will allow us to distribute food for bison in the 2023/2024 season.
Due to our previous cooperation, we purchased a vehicle that is essential for fieldwork related to the protection of bison and lynx. The vehicle is primarily used for international trips to bring lynx. In 2023, there have already been 4 trips during which we brought 8 lynx. 7 of them, after an adaptation period and equipped with telemetry collars, were released into the wild. One lynx is still undergoing training, after which it will join the free population of this species in West Pomerania.
The vehicle is also used by the Emergency Intervention team for fieldwork, including transporting bison and lynx during protective actions, driving bison away from valuable agricultural crops to minimize damage in the fields, and monitoring bison and lynx, which allows us to effectively plan and carry out all necessary procedures, such as capturing sick lynx for treatment or distributing food to individual herds of bison.
We would like to sincerely thank Jeronimo Martins Polska S.A. and PTOP Salamandra for their financial support, which is extremely important to us, as it allows us to continue our work towards the recovery of the lynx species and to continue supporting the free population of bison without concerns about the continuity and sustainability of our team.
