Liczba rysi wypuszczonych w ramach Projektu LIFE22-NAT-PL-LIFE LYNX PL LT DE: [sv slug=”rysie_projekt”]

There are lynxes that go down in the history of projects – carried out by the West Pomeranian Nature Society – in a unique way.

Diana is one of them.

She was born in 2021.

When she left the Dzika Zagroda in June 2022, no one knew how her fate would turn out. Today we know that she has become one of the most important lynxes for the restoration of the lynx population in northern Poland.

Already in the first year, as a first-born, she brought out a record-breaking litter of five cubs in the wild. However, her greatest achievement is not the record itself. The real success can be seen only years later. Her daughters, including Ina and Boberek, became mothers themselves. Successive generations of lynxes are born, and Diana’s story continues.

Not all of Diana’s children were able to be collared.

From her first litter, Ina and Gładysz received collars (Ina has a second litter this year).

In the next litter, in which she gave birth to three cubs, the collar was given to Boberek and Stereo (during this year’s control of a female named Boberek, we observed at least 1 cub).

Last year, Diana gave birth to three kittens – the collars were given to Meghan and Harry.

This year Diana has a fourth litter!

During the inspection, we counted as many as 4 toddlers.

Since her release in 2022, Diana has given birth to 15 kittens!

This is why reintroduction does not end on the day the transport box is opened. Releasing the animal is just the beginning.

The most important thing are the next years and the answer to the question of whether the lynxes will establish their own territories and raise offspring. Diana proves all the time that it was worth the wait.

In these photos and videos you will not see just one lynx. You will see a story that has been going on for years – Diana, her daughters and the next generations of her descendants.

They are the biggest success of the project and the best proof that reintroduction really works.
