As part of the LIFE LYNX PL LT DE project ‘Expanding the range of the lynx population in northern Poland’, this year we have expanded the enclosure complex at Dzika Zagroda with additional enclosures that will be used to breed lynxes and release them as part of the project. In addition, the enclosures will also be used to treat sick individuals, which, thanks to our help, will be able to return to the wild.
At this stage of the reintroduction programme for this species, it is extremely important to treat sick individuals, as each lynx in the wild has a significant impact on the real chances of population growth. The Emergency Response Team responds to every report of a lynx appearing near humans and thoroughly investigates each case in order to be able to help the animal in a timely manner.
The new enclosures will also be used to acclimatise lynxes brought in from foreign breeding centres.
The enclosures were built by Project staff who have extensive experience in working with these predators.
