The scabies mite (a small parasite that burrows channels in the skin) poses a significant threat to lynxes and other wild animals (e.g., foxes or wolves). Animals infected with it lose almost all their fur, and their skin develops scaling and oozing wounds. The wounds and scabs, including on the pads of their paws, prevent them from moving (which means, among other things, obtaining food!). Eventually, the sick animals succumb to starvation, hypothermia, and exhaustion.
Rudy was found in such a dire state. Fortunately, our specialists saved him! Rudy received medication and was rehydrated. The first success came just a few days later, as the tomcat began to eat. His condition improved day by day, and in December, further tests confirmed that the scabies mite had been eradicated! Now, all that remains is to rebuild Rudy’s condition so that, according to plan, he can return to nature in just 2 days!
