In November, a lynx was wandering around the area of Drawsko Pomorskie, in poor condition. It turned out to be Rudy, whom we… know well!
The 6-year-old male weighed only 13 kg, while he should weigh twice as much! The reason for his terrible condition was scabies. For most wild animals affected by this disease, the struggle ends in defeat.
In addition to losing fur and teeth, scabies manifests as severe itching of the skin, and scratching leads to open wounds, which in turn is a straightforward path to further infections. In search of easy prey, weakened animals head towards human farms, which can generate conflict.
Fortunately, Rudy received the necessary help from our team and will be back in the wild in just 5 days!

Rudy’s story is also interesting because he is the first lynx released as part of the lynx reintroduction program in northwestern Poland, supported by WWF. As part of this initiative, since 2019, over 60 lynxes have been released into the wild, including 11 last year. The program is also a chance for future generations of lynxes! Last year, as many as 17 kittens were born in the West Pomeranian forests!
