The Project Team does not give up, and just after our two-day conference, two lynxes (a male and a female), after completing treatment at the rehabilitation center run by ZTP in Jabłonowo, were released into the wild.
One of them is Dawid – a 6-year-old male who came to us in 2019 and was released into the wild in the same year. Dawid is a constant partner of the Azjatka female, and the offspring of this pair contributes to the lynx population in West Pomerania every year. Dawid was captured due to scabies, and thanks to a quick response, his treatment did not take too long, as his condition was not bad. We are glad that he was able to be treated before mating season, as this way the Azjatka female will not contract this cruel parasite from him.
The second individual is the female Jule, who arrived at the center due to general health problems. She raised concerns among the residents of Węgorzyno, as she was seen up close by many people and despite the presence of onlookers, she did not want to leave the area. Jule was most likely hit by a car. Fortunately, her condition was not serious, and after receiving medication and observation, she is also returning to the wild. Jule came to us in August this year as a one-year-old cat and was released at the beginning of September. We captured her in November, and now she is returning to nature, so her adventure in the wild is really just beginning.
This year, at our rehabilitation center, we accepted fourteen lynxes, of which ten were released back into the wild, one is still at the center, and unfortunately, we were unable to save the remaining three. Most of these individuals were infected with scabies.
