First releases of lynxes as part of the LIFE22-NAT-PL-LIFE LYNX PL LT DE Project.

The beginning of the year is not only a time for marking, but also for last year’s kittens to leave their mother. According to the lynx calendar, lynxes born in the ZTP breeding program are also released into the wild.

One of the goals of the LIFE22-NAT-PL-LIFE LYNX PL LT DE project „Expanding the range of the lynx population in northern Poland” is to release 40 lynxes in northern Poland between 2024 and 2028. And just this week, the realization of this goal began with the release of the first two lynxes into the wild. These lynxes are from our own breeding. The nearly one-year-old animals were released into nature in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and have joined the re-established lynx population in northwestern Poland.

As part of the project, we plan to conduct our own breeding and acquire lynxes from other (primarily foreign) breeding centers. We are very keen on obtaining animals whose genomes can enrich the population.

All lynxes released into the wild are genetically tested and approved for the reintroduction program after thorough analysis conducted by a team of specialists led by Prof. Ratkiewicz from the University of Białystok.

The LIFE22-NAT-PL-LIFE LYNX PL LT DE project is being implemented in collaboration with partners: the Spychowo Forest District, Rewilding Oder Delta (German partner), and Asociacija Ekosistemu Apsaugos Centras (Lithuanian partner).

Keep your fingers crossed for Nicpoń and Szarka! 😊
