Project „Expanding the range of the lynx population in northern Poland”
In June of this year, the West Pomeranian Nature Society, along with partners: the Spychowo Forest District, Rewilding Oder Delta, and the Ecosystem Protection Center Association, signed a funding agreement for the project „Expanding the range of the lynx population in northern Poland.” Below are some details about the project:
– project duration: October 2023 – December 2028
– project value: €4,329,308.81
– EU funding value: €2,597,585.29
– funding value from NFOŚiGW: 6,000,069 PLN (35% of the value of tasks of Polish partners)
The main goals of the project are:
- Restoration of the historical range of the Baltic metapopulation of the lynx in Central Europe by creating genetically diverse local “stepping stone” populations in Northern Poland.
- Creating conditions for effective dispersal and gene flow within the Baltic metapopulation of lynxes in Poland and through stepping stone populations in Lithuania between the contiguous range of the species in Eastern Europe and peripheral populations in Central Europe.
- Maintaining social acceptance for the lynx’s protection status in Poland, Lithuania, and Germany, and gaining support for the conservation and management strategy for the Baltic population of this species in Poland developed in cooperation with key stakeholders and foreign partners.
