A lynx named Maj, or rather what is left of him, was found in a snare in the Dobra municipality, West Pomerania.
Maj was born and raised in a wildlife park in Feldkirch, Austria. We brought him in February this year, and he went directly to an adaptation enclosure. After several weeks of training, he was released into the wild in March. He adapted perfectly to life in the wild, hunted excellently, and did not show himself to people. He chose to live in an area occupied by a wild-born female named Medzia. We thought he had found the perfect spot – a territory rich in game, hiding places, and a beautiful young partner. Unfortunately, the practice that seemed to be fading in western Poland, namely poaching, is still ongoing.
Maj was killed in a snare; 10 meters from his body, we found the remains of a roe deer in a second loop. No words….
The case is being handled by the prosecutor’s office in Łobez.
