The dubious pleasure of removing a lynx carcass from the area.

Unfortunately, this week did not start with good news. Yesterday, our colleague had the dubious pleasure of removing a lynx carcass from the Okonek Forest District. Initially, the report from the foresters suggested that the lynx had been hit by a car. Unfortunately, it did not have a collar, so the body was transported to a vet to take samples and send them for genetic identification. During the autopsy, the chip number was read, which already gave an answer as to what kind of animal it was. It was a female named Merle, who was released into the wild in 2023 in the Drawno Forest District. This female was less than three years old and could have given birth to offspring in the wild, which would have contributed to the development of the lynx population in north-western Poland.

We put a lot of effort into caring for the biodiversity of our region, which is also intended to benefit future generations. Many people appreciate the fact that lynxes are becoming a natural part of our landscape. We do not understand why lynxes have so many enemies among humans. This species faces problems such as traffic accidents and scabies on a daily basis. We, as humans, do not need to add further factors that make their lives more difficult.

Let us consider what we want to leave to future generations and how we want the world to look in a few years' time.
