As promised, we present more wonders from the field. 5 kittens – this has never happened before!
Diana is a two-year-old lynx released into the wild in May last year. This year, for the first time, she became a mother. For a long time, she did not want to reveal how many offspring she had. Only with her did we fail to establish anything until the end of July. Multiple attempts to set up camera traps yielded no results. The lynx cleverly avoided all the cameras. However, the moment of truth finally arrived. While reviewing footage from one of the camera traps, we were sure our eyes were playing tricks on us. We count: one, two, three, four kittens! Shock! A record has fallen again. This is the fourth female with such numerous offspring this year! What was our surprise when a FIFTH kitten emerged in the next videos. We reviewed and counted all the kittens several times, but the evidence speaks for itself (see for yourselves!). Perhaps this is the first documented case of having such numerous offspring among lynxes. And it’s not even about the first litter (yes, Diana is a first-time mother!), but about all births among lynxes.
We also hope that such pleasant surprises are not over for this year. And we must admit that we are receiving a lot of information from the field about lynxes seen without collars, which fills us with great joy. This means that the lynxes have taken matters into their own paws and are doing quite well 😊
